I have lots of web development books covering a wide range of topics from domain design & modelling for your application through to those dealing with the user interface. However yesterday it occurred to me that out of all these books I only really have one which I use on a regular basis, one which I take with me where ever I do any web development.

Earlier today I saw a link to Jakob Nielsen’s latest alert box entitled Search Engines as Leeches on the Web. I had assumed it to be focused on the aggregation techniques that modern search engines, Google in particular, seem to be focusing on. As it turned out the alertbox article was focusing more on the paid ranking techniques and their impact on your bottom line/site development.

However my initial thought process had been kick-started and pointed towards thoughts I’d recently had.

A recent addition to my blog rotation, Writers Block Live, is that a ex Apple employee. In a recent it was nice to hear the story of a meeting that took place during the development of iTunes with a record company president, Howie Klein, who actually understood the impact of MP3’s on the way music will be consumed.
